About the Designer: Katrina Johnson
I’m Katrina Johnson, the creative force behind Kat Johnson Design. With over 15 years of experience in film and television production, project management, event planning, and financial accounting, I bring a unique blend of artistic vision and meticulous planning to every project. My wide-ranging background has honed my skills in planning and designing intricate details, directing teams to execute complex projects, and sourcing materials. As a producer and director of finance, I’ve also managed large-scale budgets, ensuring every dollar is utilized to achieve the highest quality. My lifelong passion for art, coupled with hands-on construction knowledge from my general contractor father, has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of tools, materials, and DIY techniques.
My passion for interior design was ignited in childhood, when I would imagine and sketch blueprints and concepts for my future home. This creative drive was further cultivated through designing virtual homes in The Sims, where I focused solely on interior design aspects. My ideas began to materialize in 2020, when my husband Scott and I purchased our first home in California. Inspired by the concept of escapism, we embarked on transforming each room into a richly themed world – starting with our bedroom’s elegant vampire black and red theme. I showcase our designs and occasionally share DIY tutorials on Instagram @thejohnsonlair.
